A hair transplant usually takes about six to eight hours, and larger sessions can take most of the day. The time depends on the number of grafts, the technique and breaks for rest and meals. You stay awake under local anaesthesia and can usually return to your hotel the same evening. The treating team gives you the expected schedule before the procedure day.

A natural hairline is designed by the treating doctor to suit your age, face shape, forehead proportions and the amount of donor hair available. It usually has a soft, slightly irregular front edge made with single-hair grafts rather than a straight line. You can share your wishes, and the doctor explains how the design balances today's appearance with possible future hair loss.

A hair transplant is usually performed under local anaesthesia, which numbs the donor and recipient areas while you stay awake. The injections at the start are the most noticeable part; after that, most people feel pressure rather than pain, and more anaesthetic can be given if needed. Before you travel, share clear photos of your hair and donor area, your medical history, allergies and all medicines and supplements you take, so the treating team can plan safely. Treating teams usually ask you to avoid alcohol for several days before and after the procedure, and to stop or cut down smoking for as long as possible around it, commonly at least one to two weeks. Alcohol can increase bleeding and swelling, and smoking reduces blood flow to the scalp, which can affect healing. Follow the exact periods given by your treating doctor.

Which medicines to pause is decided by the treating doctor, so share a full list of your medicines and supplements well before travelling. Blood thinners, aspirin, some anti-inflammatory painkillers and supplements such as fish oil, vitamin E or ginkgo are often reviewed because they can increase bleeding. Never stop a prescribed medicine on your own; ask the doctor who prescribed it first.

Discomfort after a hair transplant is usually mild to moderate and is managed with painkillers prescribed by the treating team for the first few days. Some tightness or soreness in the donor area and scalp is common and usually eases within a week. Take only the medicines you are given, avoid pressure on the grafts, and contact the team if pain increases suddenly or becomes severe.

Some swelling of the forehead, and sometimes around the eyes, is common after a hair transplant; it usually appears on the second or third day and settles within about a week. Keeping your head raised, using cold compresses on the forehead (not on the grafts) and following the team's instructions can help. The forehead band in your package can help manage swelling when used as your team advises. Contact the team if swelling is severe, painful or comes with a fever.

For the first nights, sleep on your back with your head raised, for example on two pillows or in a slightly reclined position, to reduce swelling and protect the grafts. A travel neck pillow can help stop your head turning onto the implanted area. The neck pillow in your package helps keep your head in the right position during the first nights. Avoid sleeping on your front or side for the period your treating team advises, usually around the first week.

The first wash is done very gently: a mild shampoo or foam recommended by the team is applied by dabbing, left briefly, then rinsed off with lukewarm, low-pressure water, often poured from a cup. The grafts are not rubbed or scratched, and the scalp is dried by patting with a soft towel or left to air-dry. The shampoo and lotion you will use after the first wash are included in your package. Follow the written washing routine your treating team gives you.

Recovery usually follows a predictable pattern: small scabs and redness in the first days, swelling that settles within about a week, scabs coming off around days 10 to 14, and the normal shedding of transplanted hairs in the first weeks. New growth often starts from about three to four months. Everyone heals differently, and your treating team's instructions take priority.

Most transplanted hairs shed within about two to six weeks after the procedure; this shedding is a normal part of the hair growth cycle, and the follicles stay under the skin. New hair usually starts to grow from around three to four months. Some existing hairs nearby may also fall out temporarily, which is called shock loss. FUE usually does not leave a linear scar; the points where grafts are taken heal into small dot-like marks that most people do not notice once the hair grows. Temporary numbness or reduced sensation can occur in the treated or donor area; it is related to small nerve endings being affected during the procedure. It usually fades gradually over a few weeks to a few months, and the time varies from person to person. If numbness lasts or comes with pain, mention it at your check-up; the treating doctor assesses it.

The result is assessed once the transplanted hair has finished growing, usually within 12–18 months; shedding in the first weeks does not mean the transplant has failed. Preparation depends on the restoration and the tooth. Veneers may need limited preparation; crowns generally cover more of the tooth. Ask the dentist to explain how much natural tooth tissue will be removed.

Some sensitivity to cold, heat or biting is common for a few days to a few weeks after teeth are prepared for crowns or veneers, especially while temporaries are worn. It usually settles as the teeth adapt. Avoid very hot or cold food at first and use the toothpaste your dentist recommends. Contact the dentist if sensitivity is severe, keeps increasing, wakes you at night or the bite feels high.

It depends on your treatment. For crowns and veneers that can be completed in one trip, you usually leave with the final restorations. After implant surgery, the bone needs time to heal before the final teeth are fitted, so many patients go home with temporary teeth or a temporary bridge and return for a second visit. Your written plan should state which teeth are temporary and for how long.

In some people the jawbone is not wide or high enough to hold an implant securely, for example after a tooth has been missing for a long time. In these cases a bone graft or, in the upper back jaw, a sinus lift may be discussed. These steps can add healing time and may change the number of trips. Insufficient bone does not automatically mean an implant is impossible, but not every patient is suitable for these procedures. Not always. Whitening works on natural teeth; crowns, veneers and fillings do not change colour, so they may look different afterwards. Temporary sensitivity is common. After veneers, crowns or whitening, flying is usually possible the day after the final appointment, once your bite has been checked. Grinding or clenching, often during sleep, puts extra force on crowns and veneers and can lead to chipping, cracks or loosening over time. Tell the team in advance if you grind your teeth or wake up with jaw pain. The dentist may recommend a night guard; wear it as advised and bring it to your check-ups. Daily brushing, cleaning between the teeth, avoiding very hard food and regular check-ups also help protect your restorations.

Most dental treatments, such as preparing teeth for crowns or veneers and placing implants, are usually done under local anaesthesia: the area is numbed and you stay awake. If you are very anxious or the procedure is long, sedation may be discussed; this needs a health assessment and someone to accompany you afterwards. Share your medical history and medicines in advance. Whether sedation is suitable is decided by the treating dentist and the anaesthesia team.

Zirconia and E-max crowns and porcelain veneers are made of ceramic, which keeps its colour well and usually does not stain from coffee, tea or smoking. However, your natural teeth and the bonded edges of the restorations can discolour over time. Whitening does not change the colour of crowns or veneers, so if you want whitening, it is usually planned before they are made. Regular brushing, professional cleaning and check-ups help keep the appearance consistent.

Only selected patients may be suitable. The surgeon considers health, anatomy, operating time, anaesthesia and recovery. Combining procedures is not appropriate for everyone. For some patients it may be safer to spread the procedures over different dates; the aim is not to do as many procedures as possible in one session, but to create a safe plan.

Seek urgent medical help for calf pain or swelling, chest pain or sudden shortness of breath.

Share your full medical history, medicines, supplements and any previous operations with the team well before booking, so the surgeon can decide whether the plan is suitable. You may be asked to stop smoking, pause certain medicines as instructed, keep your weight stable and arrange blood tests. Smoking reduces blood flow to the skin and can slow wound healing and increase the risk of complications. Alcohol can affect bleeding and interact with medicines. Surgeons usually ask you to stop smoking and avoid alcohol for a period before and after surgery. Follow the timing your surgeon gives you.

Contact the team straight away if you have fever, increasing pain, swelling that is clearly greater on one side, spreading redness, discharge from the wound or bleeding that does not stop. Shortness of breath, chest pain, or pain and swelling in one calf need urgent medical help; call the local emergency number. Keep the team's contact details with you during your trip and after you return home.

A stable weight is usually recommended, especially for body contouring, because large weight changes after surgery can affect the result. A higher body mass index and some health conditions can increase surgical and anaesthetic risk. If you are planning to lose weight, discuss the timing first. General anaesthesia is widely used and is usually well tolerated by healthy adults, but like any medical procedure it carries risks, such as nausea, a sore throat and, rarely, breathing, heart or allergic complications. Gentle walking is usually encouraged from the first days to support circulation. Light activity is often possible after a few weeks, while heavy lifting, intense training and exercises that strain the operated area are usually avoided for about four to six weeks or longer, depending on the procedure. Increase your activity gradually. Your surgeon will tell you when each type of exercise is suitable.

Swimming in the sea or a pool is usually avoided until the wounds have fully closed, often for several weeks. Fresh scars should be protected from direct sun for many months, as sunlight can darken them; cover them or use a high-protection sunscreen once the skin has healed. Heat can also increase swelling. Drains, if used, are usually removed within a few days, once the fluid has decreased; this is often done before you fly home. Non-dissolving stitches are usually removed about one to two weeks after surgery, while dissolving stitches do not need to be removed. The timing depends on the procedure and your healing. Your written plan should show when these check-ups take place; ask what to do if a stitch is still in place when you return home.

Revision surgery is a further operation to correct or improve the result of a previous procedure, for example asymmetry, contour irregularities, scar problems or an implant-related issue. Because the tissues need time to settle, revision is usually not considered before about 6 to 12 months, unless there is an urgent medical reason. It is often more complex than the first operation. Bring your previous operation reports; whether revision is needed is decided by the surgeon after an examination.

For hair transplant, dental and plastic surgery treatments: if a problem that appears within 2 years after your treatment is caused by the procedure itself (by the healthcare facility or the doctor), AVAN AESTH covers only the fee for the corrective procedure (the surgery itself). Flights, hotel, transfers, medication, tests and all other costs for the correction are your own. Whether the problem is caused by the procedure is decided on the basis of the treating doctor’s assessment. You pay all costs in these cases: the rules, aftercare instructions or doctor’s recommendations given to you are not followed; problems that arise after the 2-year period in which the result develops has ended, from reasons on your side, such as aftercare not being continued; other health problems unrelated to the procedure; a request for a new and different procedure.

Before you travel home, ask the treating team for your written aftercare instructions, treatment summary and, where relevant, X-rays or implant details. Share these with your own doctor or dentist and book check-ups at the intervals advised. You can also send photos to us via WhatsApp or email; we pass your questions to the treating team. Yes. Your companion's stay in the same room and their transfers are included in the package at no extra cost. Tell us at your first contact that you are bringing a companion; the details are set out in your written plan. Having someone with you in the first days after surgery is often helpful. They may be considered for specific concerns such as volume loss, certain lines or skin quality, when surgery is not wanted or not needed. They do not replace surgery for marked skin laxity. Your health, expectations and previous treatments are assessed first. The treating healthcare professional decides which option, if any, suits you.

The effects are usually temporary and last from several months to longer, depending on the product, the area treated and your body. Skin treatments such as mesotherapy or PRP are usually planned as a course, and maintenance sessions may be discussed. Ask the treating professional what to expect for the product used in your case.

Flying is usually possible soon after most non-surgical treatments, but swelling or bruising may still be visible. If you have several sessions or a treatment near the eyes or lips, ask how many days to allow before your flight. Confirm the timing with the treating professional before booking.
