What is an eyebrow transplant?
An eyebrow transplant places single hairs, usually taken from the scalp, into thin or missing parts of the eyebrows. Each hair is set at a very flat angle and in the direction of natural brow growth. Because the hairs come from the scalp, they keep growing longer and need regular trimming, much like the rest of your eyebrows.
Why do eyebrows become thin?
| Cause | What usually comes first |
|---|---|
| Years of plucking or waxing | Checking whether any hairs are still growing; a transplant may be considered if they are not |
| Scars from injury, burns or surgery | Assessment of the scar tissue before planning grafts |
| Hair-pulling habit (trichotillomania) | Support and treatment for the habit before any transplant |
| Medical conditions such as thyroid disease or alopecia areata | Diagnosis and treatment by a doctor; a transplant is not the first step |
| Hair loss after cancer treatment | Waiting to see whether the brows regrow, in agreement with your doctors |
Is an eyebrow transplant suitable for me?
It may be suitable when the cause of brow loss is known and stable and there is healthy hair at the back of the scalp. It is usually postponed while a skin or hair condition is active, or while a hair-pulling habit continues. The treating doctor decides after an examination.
An eyebrow transplant is usually considered for sparse or uneven brows, brows thinned by over-plucking, or scars in the eyebrow area. Some medical conditions that cause brow loss are assessed separately.
How is the eyebrow shape planned?
The shape is usually drawn on the skin before the procedure and agreed with you. Good planning considers the natural position of your brow bone, symmetry between both sides, how the brow starts near the nose and how it tapers at the tail. Bring photos of your eyebrows from earlier years if you have them; they help show your natural shape.
Eyebrow transplant or microblading?
Microblading and brow tattooing colour the skin to create the look of hair; they do not add real hairs and fade over time. An eyebrow transplant adds growing hairs but is a surgical procedure with a recovery period. Some people use both at different times. Ask the provider whether previous tattooing or microblading affects your plan.
What happens after the procedure?
- small crusts around each hair in the first days; follow the washing instructions you receive;
- most transplanted hairs usually shed in the following weeks before new growth starts;
- new hairs grow gradually over the following months;
- once they grow, the hairs need trimming and may need gel to lie in the right direction.
More sessions may be suggested if you want more density. See also Beard transplant and our hair transplant in Istanbul overview.

What to discuss at your consultation
Agree on eyebrow shape and symmetry before proceeding. Discuss donor-hair selection, implantation direction, future trimming and the possibility that further refinement may be needed.
Personalised treatment plan
Your individual package includes hotel accommodation, airport welcome, VIP transfers, interpreter support and the medicines prescribed by the treating professional. Hair transplant packages also include one PRP session, one mesotherapy session and an aftercare kit (special hat, neck pillow, forehead band, shampoo and lotion); the treating doctor decides on suitability. Your dates and length of stay in Istanbul depend on your treatment plan; before booking, confirm them in writing together with the number of hotel nights and aftercare arrangements.
Travel and length of stay
Ask for an individual schedule before booking flights. Confirm the number of visits, review appointments and when the treating professional expects you to be fit to travel. Some treatment plans require more than one visit.
Follow-up after returning home
After you return home, we follow up with you for 2 years and we get in touch with you ourselves: close follow-up in the first week, then once a month until month 6 and every 3 months until the end of the second year. For hair transplants, a daily photo is requested for the first 10 days.

How many grafts are needed for an eyebrow transplant?
An eyebrow transplant usually needs a few hundred grafts for both brows; the exact number depends on your existing brows, the desired shape and density. Single-hair grafts are preferred for eyebrows, and each is placed according to the natural direction and angle. The treating doctor determines how many grafts you need after an examination.
Do transplanted eyebrows need regular trimming?
Yes, for most people; because the hairs are taken from the back of the head, they keep growing like scalp hair. Brows usually need trimming and shaping every few weeks. For some people the hairs may adapt better to the brow area over time. Follow your treatment team's advice on aftercare.
When can I wear make-up after an eyebrow transplant?
Make-up on the brow area can usually be used once the scabs have fallen off and the skin has healed, after about two weeks. Make-up and cleansing products can irritate the grafts and healing skin early on. A longer wait may be needed for permanent make-up or brow tinting.
How long does recovery take after an eyebrow transplant?
Small scabs in the brow area usually fall off within 7–10 days; mild redness fades over a few days to a few weeks. Most transplanted hairs shed in the first weeks, and new hairs usually start to grow within a few months. The final appearance can take longer. Progress varies from person to person; your treating team's instructions take priority.
How many days should I stay in Istanbul for an eyebrow transplant?
A stay of 2–3 days is usually planned for an eyebrow transplant: arrival and examination, the procedure day, and a check-up before you fly home. The stay may be longer if it is combined with another treatment. Your exact schedule is in your written plan; agree on your travel dates with your treating team.
