What to discuss at your consultation
Ask which teeth need crowns and why. Discuss tooth preparation, bite, shade matching and the proposed zirconia material before approving the laboratory design. A zirconia crown covers the whole visible tooth, so it is usually considered for teeth that are heavily filled, cracked or root-canal treated rather than for purely cosmetic changes. Ask whether the crown will be monolithic or layered with porcelain, because this affects appearance and strength. Temporary crowns are often worn while the final crown is made. Bring recent dental X-rays if you have them, and ask how later adjustments would be handled once you are back home.

What are zirconia crowns?
A zirconia crown is a tooth-coloured cap made from zirconium dioxide ceramic that covers the entire visible part of a prepared tooth. It is used to restore strength and shape to teeth that are broken, weakened, heavily filled or root-canal treated, and it can also form part of an aesthetic dental plan.
Who may be suitable for zirconia crowns?
People with damaged or heavily restored teeth, root-canal-treated teeth or a need for a bridge may be assessed for zirconia crowns. Healthy teeth that only need a colour change may be better suited to less invasive options. Gum disease, untreated decay and bite problems must be evaluated by a dentist before crowns are planned.
Zirconia crowns: What should international patients expect in Istanbul?
You can send recent dental X-rays and photos for an initial review. In Istanbul the dentist examines your teeth, takes X-rays or scans, prepares the teeth, records impressions or digital scans and usually fits temporary crowns while the laboratory makes the final ones. After a try-in and bite check the crowns are cemented. Confirm how many appointments your plan needs before booking flights.
What is recovery like after getting zirconia crowns?
Teeth and gums may feel sensitive after preparation and while you wear temporary crowns, and the new bite can feel different at first. Your dentist explains how to clean around the crowns and which foods to avoid with temporaries. Report persistent pain, a high bite or a loose crown so it can be checked.

Zirconia crowns can look natural, but the result depends on shade selection, the gum line and the condition of the supporting teeth. How long do zirconia crowns last?
Zirconia crowns are designed for long-term use, but no crown is permanent and there is no fixed lifespan.
