Dental treatments in Istanbul

Dental care includes implants, veneers, crowns and whitening, depending on your oral health. A dentist should assess your teeth and gums before recommending a treatment plan.

≈ 4 h direct flight from London (≈ 10 h from New York) · Airport welcome · VIP transfer · Hotel · Interpreter in your language

Which dental treatment fits your goal?

The right dental treatment depends on what you want to change and on your oral health. Whitening changes colour only; veneers change the front surface; crowns cover a whole weakened tooth; implants replace missing teeth. A Hollywood Smile is an aesthetic result, while a smile makeover is a personal plan that may combine several of these.

TreatmentsWhat it isUsually discussed when
Hollywood SmileThe aesthetic result: a bright, even smileYou want a uniform, whiter look across the visible teeth
Smile makeoverA personal plan combining treatmentsSeveral issues (colour, shape, gaps, missing teeth) need a staged plan
E-max veneersA lithium disilicate ceramic material for veneersFront teeth need natural translucency
Laminate veneersThin veneers with minimal preparationShape or colour changes on healthy front teeth
Zirconia crownsFull-coverage crowns in zirconiaA tooth is weakened, heavily filled or root-treated
Dental implantsA titanium or zirconia root replacing a missing toothOne or more teeth are missing and bone allows it
Teeth whiteningBleaching that lightens natural tooth colourTeeth are healthy and only the shade bothers you

A dentist confirms the options only after an examination and X-rays.

How long do you need to stay in Istanbul for dental treatment?

Veneers and crowns are usually planned over 5–7 days in Istanbul, while dental implants usually require two trips with 3–6 months of healing in between. The exact timeline is set by the dentist after an examination and X-rays.

TreatmentsTypical stayNumber of tripsKeep in mind
Teeth whitening1–2 days1Only changes the colour of your natural teeth
Veneers (e.max or porcelain)About 5–7 days1Ask for a try-in before the veneers are fitted permanently
Zirconia crownsAbout 5–7 days1The teeth are prepared; you wear temporary crowns while the final ones are made
Dental implantsAbout 3–7 days per tripUsually 2, 3–6 months apartThe bone needs to heal before the final tooth is fitted
Smile makeoverDepends on the plan1–2Can combine several treatments in stages

Day by day: an example with veneers or crowns

A common schedule is examination and planning in the first days, laboratory work in between and final fitting at the end of the stay. Your own plan may look different.

  1. Day 1: airport welcome, transfer, examination, X-rays and a review of the treatment plan.
  2. Day 2: preparation of the teeth, a digital scan or impressions, and temporary teeth.
  3. Days 3–5: laboratory work and a try-in of shape and colour.
  4. Days 5–7: final fitting, a bite check and care advice before you fly home.

Checklist: how to choose safely

Before any treatment, ask which treatment you actually need – and whether a less invasive option would be enough. Don’t let tempting offers decide for you, and get the answers in writing.

  • You have asked about less invasive options, such as whitening instead of veneers, and why they would not be enough.
  • You have a written plan for each tooth: treatment, material, how much of the tooth will be filed down and the number of visits. Heavy filing of healthy teeth is one of the concerns often linked to the term “Turkey teeth”.
  • X-rays are taken and your gums, roots and existing fillings are assessed before any cosmetic treatment starts.
  • You can try in the shape and colour before veneers or crowns are fitted permanently.
  • You have shared your medical history, all medicines and any allergies in advance.
  • You take home your records, X-rays and details of the materials used.
  • You know whom to contact if something needs adjusting after you return home.

When do we say “no” in dental treatment?

  1. Diabetes
For patients with diabetes we do not coordinate any dental treatment (implants, zirconia crowns, laminate or E-max veneers, Hollywood Smile, whitening or any other); we refer them to a fully equipped hospital.
  2. Risky corrections of work done at another clinic
Correcting crowns, veneers or implants placed elsewhere is not always safe. We do not take on correction procedures that are judged to be risky.
  3. Procedures that would give an insufficient result
If the dentist’s assessment shows that the expected result cannot be achieved, we tell you so clearly.

Want to know where you stand? Fill in the form or message us on WhatsApp. We will tell you honestly what the dentist’s assessment shows and what the alternatives are.

If you are travelling from the UK or the US

A direct flight from London Heathrow to Istanbul takes about 4 hours, and from New York JFK about 10 hours. Turkey is 2 hours ahead of the UK in summer and 3 hours ahead in winter, and 7–8 hours ahead of New York.

  • Entry: GOV.UK says British citizens can visit Turkey without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period for tourism, and the US Department of State says no visa is needed for tourist stays of 90 days or less. Both also say that travelling for medical purposes may need a visa: GOV.UK asks anyone entering for medical purposes to check the information on applying for a visa, and the State Department says a proper medical visa is required for some medical procedures. Check the current FCDO entry requirements or the US Department of State page for Türkiye before booking. We do not issue visas or give visa advice; we can help you understand the steps in your plan.
  • Insurance: planned treatment abroad is usually not covered by standard travel insurance, so ask your insurer what applies to your trip. The UK GHIC and UK EHIC are not valid in Turkey.
  • Follow-up at home: bring your treatment report and X-rays to your dentist at home so that they know what was done.
  • Communication: you can ask questions in your own language before, during and after your trip.

Interpreter support in your language

From your first contact to follow-up after you return home, you are supported by an interpreter who speaks your language; interpreter support is available in all 15 languages of this website. The interpreter is with you at the examination, on the treatment day and during your stay in Istanbul, so that you can ask your questions and understand the answers in your own language.

More frequently asked questions about dental treatment

Is dental treatment in Turkey safe?

It can be, when treatment is planned after a proper examination and X-rays, carried out in a licensed facility and followed up. We work only with licensed healthcare facilities, you receive a written plan before treatment, and we follow up with you for 2 years after you return. Every treatment has risks; the dentist explains them and the alternatives before you decide, and no one can promise a specific result. Updated: 14.10.2026 · Source: NHS – Treatment abroad checklist

How long do veneers and crowns last?

How long they last depends on the material, oral hygiene, your bite, any teeth grinding and regular check-ups. Ask the dentist what applies to the material proposed for you.

How does dental implant treatment work?

Implants are usually placed in two stages: first the implant is placed in the jawbone, then the bone is given a few months to heal before the final tooth is fitted. The dentist sets the timeline based on your bone and your health.

Can I have dental treatment if I have diabetes or another chronic condition?

For patients with diabetes we do not coordinate any dental treatment (implants, zirconia crowns, laminate or E-max veneers, Hollywood Smile, whitening or any other); we refer you to a fully equipped hospital where the relevant specialists can assess you directly. For other chronic conditions, suitability is decided by the treating dentist after an individual assessment; share your full medical history and all your medicines in advance.

What happens if a veneer or crown needs adjusting after I get home?

Send us a photo and a short description; we pass it on to the treating dental team and let you know the dentist’s assessment. If the problem appears within 2 years and is caused by the procedure itself, AVAN AESTH covers only the fee for the corrective procedure; flights, hotel and transfers are your own (conditions: “Who pays for any additional costs?”). Take your records and X-rays home so that a dentist there can also see what was done. Updated: 14.10.2026 · Source: NHS – Treatment abroad checklist

What does the written plan for dental treatment state, and can there be additional charges?

Your written plan states which procedure is planned for which teeth, the number of teeth or units and the proposed material, along with your dates, length of stay and what the package includes. If an additional procedure outside this plan turns out to be necessary after the X-rays, an extra fee is charged; you are informed in advance and your consent is obtained before anything is done. No advance payment is taken; you pay in Istanbul on the day of treatment. Updated: 14.10.2026 · Source: AVAN AESTH coordination process

How many trips do I need for dental treatment?

Veneers and crowns are usually planned in one trip of about 5–7 days, while dental implants often require two trips with 3–6 months of healing in between. The treating dentist sets the exact timeline after the examination and X-rays, and it is set out in your written plan. Updated: 14.10.2026 · Source: NHS – Treatment abroad checklist

Do I need to send X-rays in advance?

It is not required. If you have them, recent X-rays and clear photos of your teeth help with the preliminary assessment. The X-rays needed for your final plan are taken in Istanbul and are included in the package. Updated: 14.10.2026 · Source: NHS – Treatment abroad checklist

Will I be given the brand and model of my implant in writing?

Yes. The brand and model of the implant used are given to you in writing. Keep this information with your X-rays and treatment summary; a dentist in your home country will need it for check-ups or later work. Updated: 14.10.2026 · Source: NHS – Treatment abroad checklist

Who chooses the shade of my veneers or crowns?

You choose the shade. The dentist shows you the options and the shades that look natural for you, and your approval is obtained before the permanent restorations are fitted. Updated: 14.10.2026 · Source: AVAN AESTH coordination process

For implant treatment that needs two trips, are hotel and transfers included on the second visit?

Yes. On both visits, hotel accommodation, transfers, interpreter support and prescribed medication are included in the package. The dates of each visit are set out in your written plan. Updated: 14.10.2026 · Source: AVAN AESTH package terms

What is included in the dental treatment package?

The full package contents are listed under “What your package includes”, and how the 2-year follow-up works is explained in “How does the 2-year follow-up work?” on this page. We do not coordinate any dental treatment for patients with diabetes; they are referred to a fully equipped hospital. No advance payment is taken. How does the 2-year follow-up work?

Channel: Follow-up takes place on WhatsApp; you send your photos and questions there. Schedule: AVAN AESTH gets in touch with you. We follow you closely in the first week, then once a month until month 6 and every 3 months until the end of the second year. If you have a question or concern in between, you can write to us at any time. Who you are in contact with: your patient coordinator, who speaks your language. All follow-up messages are checked one by one every day by the founder of AVAN AESTH. Additional costs: for the conditions of a correction when a problem is caused by the procedure, see the question “Who pays for any additional costs?”.

Will I have an interpreter in my own language during treatment?

Yes. An interpreter who speaks your language supports you from your first contact, at the examination, on the treatment day, during your stay in Istanbul and at follow-up after you return home.

What is the risk of over-filing teeth, and how can it be avoided?

Over-filing means removing more natural tooth than needed, for example to fit crowns on healthy teeth, and it can cause sensitivity, nerve damage and later root canal treatment. The term “Turkey teeth” is often used for results linked to this kind of aggressive preparation. Depending on your situation, more conservative options such as whitening, bonding, orthodontic treatment or veneers may also be considered; a crown may be appropriate if there are large fillings or significant structural loss. Ask for an examination and X-rays, a written plan showing how much each tooth will be prepared, and whether a minimal-preparation option suits you; the treating dentist decides.

When may crowns or veneers not be recommended?

Not every patient is suitable for crowns or veneers. With active gum disease, untreated decay, insufficient tooth structure, severe teeth grinding or bite problems, existing oral and dental health issues may need to be assessed first. At AVAN AESTH our aim is to preserve as much healthy tooth structure as possible; we do not support unnecessary tooth reduction for purely cosmetic expectations. The final treatment plan is set by the dentist after an examination and the necessary imaging.

Who pays for any additional costs?

For hair transplant, dental and plastic surgery treatments: if a problem that appears within 2 years after your treatment is caused by the procedure itself (by the healthcare facility or the doctor), AVAN AESTH covers only the fee for the corrective procedure (the surgery itself). Flights, hotel, transfers, medication, tests and all other costs for the correction are your own. Whether the problem is caused by the procedure is decided on the basis of the treating doctor’s assessment. You pay all costs in these cases: the rules, aftercare instructions or doctor’s recommendations given to you are not followed; problems that arise after the 2-year period in which the result develops has ended, from reasons on your side, such as aftercare not being continued; other health problems unrelated to the procedure; a request for a new and different procedure.

Planning dental treatment in Turkey

A dental plan should begin with the condition of your teeth and gums and the result you want to achieve. Implants, crowns, veneers and whitening address different needs. Ask the dentist to explain the proposed restoration, suitable materials, alternatives and whether healthy tooth tissue needs to be removed.

Before arranging your Istanbul visit, request a sequence of appointments rather than assuming every treatment fits into one trip. Clarify any healing interval, temporary restorations, laboratory stages and final checks. Keep a record of the treatment and agree how routine maintenance or a problem after returning home will be handled.

AVAN AESTH coordinates treatment journeys in Istanbul through partner healthcare facilities. We are not a hospital or clinic; the treating healthcare professional assesses suitability and makes clinical decisions.

Your package includes hotel accommodation, airport welcome, VIP transfers, interpreter support and the medicines prescribed by the treating professional. Before booking, confirm in writing your dates, how long you need to stay in Istanbul and how follow-up after you return home will work.
